Encompassing approximately 18 acres, the Riverview Cemetery is located approximately 1 km north on highway 8. Initially established in 1904 by the Doukhobors in the area, it has been turned over to the Town of Kamsack to maintain.
Since then, the Town employees take great pride in maintaining it.
Located in the southern side of the cemetery, Old Riverview is the original section within the Kamsack Riverview Cemetery with the earliest recorded burial being in 1906. Unfortunately, there are a number of unmarked graves within this area with little or no records.
It consists of 12 blocks.
The Veteran's Section is located in block 6 of Old Riverview.
With over 80 people buried within this section and a walking path with those named who never made it home, this is a historical tribute of those heroes who fought for Canada.
In the late 1950's, Riverview was created with the first person being buried in 1960.
Located within the center of the cemetery, this area was designed in 16 blocks.
In the 1980's, Riverview North was created with the first person being buried in 1988. It is located between the half way point of the cemetery to the three quarter point as we head north.
New Riverside North is the most northern side of the cemetery. This section was opened in 2005 which happened to be the 100 year anniversary of Kamsack.
It is divided into 36 blocks.
St Josephat's section is a Ukrainian Catholic section of the Cemetery. Historically, only member of the Church of St. Josaphat the Martyr were allowed to be buried here.
There are 36 blocks in this section.
St Stephen's is a Roman Catholic section of the Cemetery. It was created for those who attended the St Stephen's Roman Catholic Church.
The first burials in this section were in 1924.
The Kamsack Riverview Cemetery currently has three columbarium with a total of 60 niches. This is located in the New Riverside section.
The first niche was sold in 2007 and we anticipate it will be full by 2027.
The Riverview Cemetery is running out of niches in their columbarium. Therefore, we are starting a long term project dedicated to columbaria. As part of this project, we would like to set up a Memorial Gardens area where families can sit and visit after a ceremony.
