The Town of Kamsack is seeking a dynamic leader to join our team as the Director of Protective Services/Fire Chief.

As Director of Protective Services / Fire Chief you are responsible for providing professional leadership to, and administrative management of the Town’s  Bylaw, Emergency Management and Volunteer Fire departments. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), you will be part of a small management team and tasked with specific responsibility to ensure the protection of people and property within the Town of Kamsack and regional partners.  You will provide guidance and leadership to Council regarding protective services and fire department functions.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Plan, direct and coordinate the day to day operations of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department to achieve the department’s mission and goals.  Develop and implement an active program of education, prevention and emergency preparedness.  Ensures the department is fully staffed and that team members are fully trained to respond to all calls.
Plan and direct disaster response or crisis management activities, provide disaster preparedness training, and prepare emergency plans and procedures for disaster situations.
Plan, direct and coordinate the day to day enforcement of Municipal Bylaws in order to ensure the protection of residents, property and employees.
Supervise, train and mentor firefighters, emergency management personal and bylaw officers.
Accountability for administrative functions for the Protective Services Department, including  preparation of capital and operating budgets for the department, directing and controlling all department spending within the approved budget; preparing and presenting reports and recommendations to Council, and ensures that all files, documentation and reports are completed and maintained according to requirements set out in legislation, by-laws, policy or professional best practices.


High School graduation. Post-secondary education in disciplines such as administrative management, leadership, human resource management, or protective services is desirable.
 Completion of a recognized fire fighting training program.
Ten years experience as a fire fighter, with a minimum of five years in a supervisory role.
Experience in public sector regulatory and/or protective services in a senior managerial capacity is desirable.
Strong management, motivational and interpersonal communication skills coupled with excellent administrative and organizational skills are necessary.
